How do I get more people to show up? And how do I get partners to give us money?

Bring me the thing you’re trying to figure out.

You don’t have to work through these stages in order. We start with whatever would help your club now.

The four coaching stages

  1. Getting started

Get clear on the purpose and values behind the club, who it is for and who could build it with you. Then plan the first runs and bring in the first people.

  2. Creating structure

Build a team, agree on roles and give regulars real responsibility. Let somebody lead a run, bring the music, take photos or organise the barbecue. The aim is a club that still works when you take a week off.

  3. Growing your numbers

Look at personal invitations, collaborations and what makes people come back with their friends. Growth should make the community better, not just bigger.

  4. Getting paid

Work out what your club can offer, what to charge and how to negotiate. We can look at brand partnerships, paid events, trips and services if the club is ready for them. Posting more is not the whole strategy.

Fun first

The whole thing should still be fun.

RUN-N-RAVE started because my friends and I wanted a party without staying up all night. So we added an easy morning run, a DJ and breakfast. We had no idea what we were doing. It just sounded fun.

When people enjoy being there, they bring their friends, want to help and come up with ideas. If you keep that energy and get organised, you can grow the club and make money without ruining the reason you started it.

“It’s impossible to beat somebody who’s having fun.”

I’m not teaching this from the outside.

I’m a full-time run club leader and the founder of RUN-N-RAVE, a Berlin community built around running, music and bringing people together.

Today, RUN-N-RAVE has a proper team behind it. People lead runs, manage projects, take photos, make videos and DJ. When a bigger opportunity comes along, the whole thing doesn’t land on one person.

I learned by trying things, getting things wrong and talking to other run club leaders. Nobody was sharing much useful information when I started, so I began sharing what worked for us.

There is no secret system. I’ll ask questions about your club, share what I know and tell you honestly when I think you are spending time on the wrong thing. You don’t have to build your club like mine. We work out what makes sense for yours.

It’s called coaching, but it’s more like support.

We call every week. You tell me what is happening with your club, we talk it through and choose one useful goal. Then you go and try it. The next week, we see what happened and decide what to do next.

Sometimes you need an idea. Sometimes you already know what to do and need somebody to tell you it makes sense. Sometimes I’ll tell you that I think you’re focusing on the wrong thing.

Think of it as having an accountability slash strategy buddy. A place to test your ideas, get an honest opinion and actually do the thing you said you would do.

What run club leaders say.

Eric

“Ben has been one of the best mentors I’ve had when it comes to building community. He’s incredibly knowledgeable about the space, but what stands out most is how he listens and asks the right questions that help you find the solution yourself just by talking things through with him.”

Runknown Run Club, Miami

Dan

“Working with Ben has provided more clarity and direction on how to take my run club to the next level. Being able to chat regularly about challenges has been amazing, and made me feel far more confident about growing a community that lasts.”

A few questions people ask me.

Ben Olayinka speaking on a panel in front of an audience
Is this for new run clubs or established clubs?

Both. If you are starting, we can work out what the club is for, who to involve and what to focus on first. If it is already running, bring whatever you are trying to solve now.

Is this running coaching?

No. I’m not making you a training plan. This is support for starting, leading and growing a run club.

Why would I pay for this if you share so much for free?

The information is free. The paid part is having time every week to focus on your club, decide what to do next and come back to see what happened. If one conversation is enough, I’ll tell you.

Can you help me get more people to my runs?

Yes. We can look at who is already involved, who else could help and how people hear about the runs. Personal invitations, collaborations and a strong organising team often matter more than posting more.

Can you help me build a team?

Yes. We can look at who already cares about the club, what responsibility you can share and how to give people real ownership.

Can you help me get sponsors?

Yes, if your club is ready. We can look at what you can offer, which partners make sense, what to charge and how to negotiate. If I think you should focus on the community first, I’ll tell you.

How big does my club need to be before contacting brands?

There is no single number. I would look at who comes, what your team can reliably organise and what a partnership would give back to the community. A smaller club with a clear identity and strong team can be more useful to the right brand than a large club with no structure.

What does the coaching cost?

It’s €199 per month for a weekly personal call, one clear goal and practical next steps, messages between calls and workshops with other run club leaders.

What happens in the free 20-minute call?

You tell me what is happening with your club and we talk about it. If regular calls would help, I’ll explain how the coaching works. If you only need one answer, I’ll give you that.
